Service of Lamentation for the Pandemic: 7:00 PM October 3

Over the last two years, the COVID-19 Pandemic profoundly disrupted almost every aspect of our lives – personally, at our church, our community, our nation, and around the globe. The Pandemic has touched the lives of so many.

On Sunday, October 3 at 7 PM we will gather to mourn together, to hold each other in prayer, and to remember all those who are suffering. There will be scriptures, prayers, and silence. If you have lost a loved one, or know someone who is suffering in any way – including yourself – you are welcome at any time during the service to go to the front of the church to light a candle or candles. Or you can write the names of people or groups for which you would like to have a candle lit. You can place those names in the box marked Pandemic Prayers in the HUB or hand them to an usher that evening. Please indicate if you do not want to have the name(s) read out loud.

Holy Communion October 3

Penney Memorial Church will observe Holy Communion in a special way as part of 10:30 worship on October 3. Paul and Linda Sabin will be our worship leaders, and on that date we look forward to the church being open to all who wish to come (as long as the campus is Covid-free between now and then). Watch for further information.

This is World Wide Communion Sunday, and to accent the world outreach of Christianity please feel free to wear a garment from another part of the world if you have one. Through music, prayers and homily Paul wants us to feel the joy of being in Christian fellowship and partnership with our brothers and sisters around the world.

As the last portion of our worship draws to a close, Paul will invite all worshipers to quietly leave their seats and receive Holy Communion at either of the entrances of the church, namely, at the Main Sanctuary entrance, or the Portico Entrance (facing Caroline Blvd). At these two sites, Communion will be offered by intinction, that is, worshipers will be given the bread, and invited to dip the bread into the chalice so that you will receive both elements together.

At this same time, Communion will be made available at the Pavilion and the Assisted Living facilities; and persons who remain in their homes or cottages are invited to partake in private (please have the elements on hand before the service.) Furthermore, any residents who wish may drive their carts from their home to the Portico entrance at 11:30 to receive Communion along with others. May God bless us as we celebrate World wide Communion.
