Church News November 21st

From your Moderator, Martha Gale:

1. Your church board voted to discontinue the Campus Concerns out of an abundance of caution due to the overwhelming possibility of HIPAA violations and resulting fines. Many, many thanks go to Phyllis Turner and Betty Walker for providing this service for many years. The best way to learn of hospitalizations and to learn when our neighbors have moved to or are temporarily in the Pavilion or the other satellites is to ask Shirley Lee to send you her daily census report ( A copy of this report is posted in the Hub.

2. We are planning to resume the passing of offering plates during worship on the first Sunday of Advent, November 28.

3. All church members are invited to a Q & A session on Thursday, December 2, at 10 AM with Gary Yeldell, the attorney who will help us to incorporate the church if the congregation approves this at the special meeting on December 5 at 3 PM in the Sanctuary. We will enjoy a Christmas Reception following the meeting in the Fellowship Room.

4. The Nominating Committee is still searching for someone to serve the church as: the Church School Superintendent; the Vice Moderator for Ministries. Please contact Cherian Thomas, our Vice Moderator for Support, if you feel called to serve in either of these capacities.

Church Missions News

While continuing their radio ministry worldwide, Reach Beyond has worked tirelessly to use newer technology to reach the unreached. One of their many church planting partners shared this testimony from their social media ministry:

“I am 19 years old, and I’d pray, sometimes. But I never felt like God listened to me. I realized that God gave me free will to choose how to live. I used to think that prayer was worship that God wanted from us. But I started realizing that God wanted us to have a relationship [with Him] through prayer. I have since accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior.”

Social Concerns Ministry

On Sunday, November 21 at 7 PM in the Fellowship Hall, Laura Cook, Director of Refugee programs, Lutheran Social Services, will give an update on Afghan and Haitian refugees in the Jacksonville area. All are invited.
